NL // In Retropia geven Fleur en Mathijs een afscheidsfeestje en bereiden ze het publiek voor op de oversteek naar een nieuwe thuisplaneet. Interplanetair emigreren is niet niks. Om een nieuwe start te maken, zullen we alles wat ons bekend is hier moeten achterlaten. Maar waarvan kunnen we geen afscheid nemen?

ENG // In Retropia, Fleur and Mathijs host a farewell party and prepare the audience for a one way trip to a new home planet. Interplanetary emigration, that is quite something. To make a new start, we’ll have to leave behind everything we are familiar with. But some things are hard to say goodbye to.

NL // Wij, Dystopia, zijn een jong collectief bestaande uit theatermakers Fleur Mennega en Mathijs Demper en productieleider Myrthe Ligtenberg. Onze voorstellingen zijn een mix tussen ‘soft’ sciencefiction-theater en interactief zapcabaret. We streven naar razendsnelle dialogen, duistere humor en herkenbare pijnpunten. Zoals onze naam doet vermoeden, maken we dystopisch theater. Voor ons houdt ‘dystopie’ in dat we in een maatschappij leven waarin we elkaar constant bangmaken voor de toekomst. We zijn het er bijna allemaal over eens dat het de verkeerde kant op gaat met de wereld – of dit nu te maken heeft met klimaat, technologie, oorlog of ongelijkheid.

ENG // We, Dystopia, are a young collective consisting of theatre makers Fleur Mennega and Mathijs Demper and production leader Myrthe Ligtenberg. Our performances are a mix between ‘soft’ science fiction theatre and interactive zap cabaret. We strive for fast dialogues, dark humor and everyday soreness. As our name suggests, we make dystopian theatre. For us, “dystopia” means living in a society where we are constantly scaring each other about the future. Most of us agree things are heading towards the wrong direction with the world – be it concerning climate, technology, war or inequality.
